M:Yes, Susan.Im also planning a trip to Rome for sightseeing after that.

W:Oh, I was just back from Rome. The city has made some new rules.

M:Really? What rules?

W:For example, people who dress up as Roman soldiers in charge of photos wont be allowed near hot tourist spots, and street performers cant sing or play their music on public transport.Another rule bans tourists from eating in public places.

M:Thats good.Eating in public is inappropriate and could lead to littering.

W:Rome isnt the only city to do that.Last year,Florence made a rule saying that tourists would face fines of up to 500 euros if caught eating in the street.

W:Hi, Frank.I heard youre going to withdraw from the speech class. Can you tell me why?

M:Well, Ms.McDaniel, I dont think I can make it.Public speaking scares me.I just cant get in front of a group and talk.

W:What is it that you fear about speaking in front of a group?

M:I am afraid I would look silly if I forget a word or say something stupid or if I shake or turn red.

W:What would happen if you did run into one of these things?

M:People would laugh at me.

W:Well, Frank, your fear is really not based on facts.I once asked my students what they would do if someone in class forgot a word or made a mistake. They said they would feel bad for the speaker for they knew they would be in the speakers shoes some day.Does that make you feel better?

M:Yeah, I guess.

W:I hope youll stay in the class, and try a bit more.

M:Thank you very much.Im so glad to be here.

W:Well,we all know that Italian food like pizza and spaghetti are famous all over the world. And I like pizza most. But are they considered real Italian food?

M:Of course, but we also eat a lot of other things. Most meals in Italy have at least three or four courses, but special meals have seven to nine courses.

W:Nine courses?

M:Yes.These kinds of meals last for several hours, and they always include drinking wine with family and friends.

W:Tell us more about these meals.

M:Normally,we start with a little wine and then some snacks. This is followed by a soup or spaghetti and then a main dish of fish or meat. The main dish also comes with a salad or vegetables. After that,we enjoy a dessert of cakes or cookies. Then we have coffee and another drink at the end.

W:Wow! Sounds like a wonderful meal.No wonder Italian food is so popular!

Text 10

Jim was surprised when his high school class travelled to England to learn about the life of William Shakespeare, one of Englands most famous writers. He knew Shakespeare was born in a small town, but until he visited Stratford-on-Avon,Jim couldnt really imagine the place where Shakespeare spent his childhood.During his visit,Jim learned that Shakespeares father was a glove maker. He also helped the city government in his spare time so his son could go to school for free.Sadly, when Shakespeare was only 15,he had to leave school and could not go to university. But the tour guide told Jims class that it was good that Shakespeare did not go to college.Nobody taught him how to write his plays,so he was free to write in a new way.His plays were different and interesting, and he became famous in London. Now,his name is known all over the world.
