Last Friday,the 12th graders were asked to sort and weigh the waste food,which was thrown away in the dining hall that day.To help students learn more about the food waste,the school environment club held the activity.

Among the waste,the remains of pizzas,cakes and bread were found.I was shocked most when I saw a large amount of green salads and fruits.At my school,students must have at least one fruit or vegetable for lunch.It seemed that not everyone obeyed the school rule.

From one day’s lunch,just over 700 students at our school produced about 141 pounds of food waste,over 50 pounds of liquid waste and almost 16 pounds of waste paper plates and plastic straws.I felt really disappointed while seeing so much waste.

One of my classmates,Simon,took part in the activity.“It was awful! I will never do it again.” However,most of us regarded it as a meaningful event.“You don’t realize how much food waste you’re making till you see it.”I told a reporter during an interview.

After this activity,we got the lesson—our own eating habits can even cause bigger environmental problems.
