M:Oh no,we missed it.There isn’t another bus in an hour.I don’t fancy waiting all that time.

M:How long have you been playing that game for? It seems like hours.

W:I’ve just got started and can’t put it down. You know how I love fitting pieces together. This game has fruit and animals that you have to match up.

M:At least it’s not another gun or piano game. You’d better not miss your job interview, though. That would make a poor impression on the hiring manager. When are you going to get ready?

W:I forgot to tell you that it was changed to tomorrow.I have plenty of time to prepare.I only have to go to see the dentist and talk with my professor later today.

M:Fine, but don’t miss the dentist because of that game.

听第7段材料,回答第8至10题。

Text 7

W:Look at that. Why would anyone throw a chair into the sea? Or did it just fall off a ship by accident?

M:All sorts of things get washed up here.

W:I suppose it’s not as bad as all the oil and plastics that get thrown in the sea,but rubbish like that destroys the environment, doesn’t it?

M:Yes,a few years ago you would never see anything like that on the sand.People don’t care anymore. They wouldn’t throw rubbish in their own garden, would they?

W:It will soon be evening. We can’t tidy up in the dark.Today is Friday.Shall we spend tomorrow morning picking up some of the rubbish?

M:It would be best to come back at about 1:00 p.m.

W:OK,we’ll do that tomorrow.

听第8段材料,回答第11至13题。

Text 8

W:Good afternoon,Customer Service.How can I help you?

M:Hi.I mailed some checks to you last week.I just want to see if the money is in my account.

W:I’d be happy to help you with that, sir.First, who am I speaking with?

M:My name is George Alston.

W:OK,Mr.Alston.I’ll just need to ask you a few questions. Can you tell me your address, please?

M:Yeah,2905 Berkshire Road.

W:I’m sorry, but that’s not the address we have on file.

M:Oh,I do apologize.I moved last week, and I just forgot to update my information. The old address was 38 Parkview Drive.

W:Yes,that’s the one we have. And can I have your date of birth?

M:January 9th,1948.

W:Very good. One last question:can you please tell me the last four digits of your Social Security Number?

M:9820.

W:Thank you,Mr.Alston.I’m going to place you on hold while I check on your deposit.

W:Aren’t you going for the job interview tomorrow?

M:That’s right.I have to go at ten o’clock in the morning.I don’t know how to get there, though.

W:I can take you there in my car,if you like.

M:Thanks a lot.That’s a great help.I must say I’m not happy about this interview.

W:Why not? You’re the right person they are looking for.And I know they need engineers.

M:I know,but I haven’t had much experience.

W:I don’t think that matters.Anyway you need the job.

M:Of course I do.But there’s another thing.I don’t think I’m good enough at languages.

W:But your German is really good.I was impressed by the way you talked to the people we met on holiday last year.

M:But I don’t think I speak German well enough for doing business, and my French is terrible.

W:Well,I don’t agree,your languages are good.

M:It’s very nice of you to try to cheer me up,but I still don’t think I’m going to get the job.

W:Well,we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?

听第10段材料,回答第18至20题。

Text 10

Today I’d like to tell you something about traveling by bike in London. If you visit London, you’ll see a lot of buses and cars, and also a lot of bikes. It’s very cheap and quick to ride a bike.If you take a bus,you often have to wait for half an hour or so.What’s more, the buses move very slowly. There is usually too much traffic. The Underground is quick but very expensive and often crowded.I used to travel to work by bus.I often arrived at work late, and tired. Then a friend of mine suggested we go to work together by bike.I followed him.Although we went slowly,we always arrived on time.Taking a bus took 50 minutes, while riding a bike took only half an hour. Now I love riding a bike to work.I’ve got a little more money now,and I feel much better.
