Sydney Festival is held each year in January.It is Australia’s biggest annual cultural event and has remained since its foundation in 1977.The festival consists of all kinds of events from classical music to dramas and dances.

Some performances last two weeks and some exhibitions last seven days.The festival attracts about 500,000 people to its free outdoor events and about 150,000 people to other events,and contributes more than $55 million to the country each year.

The festival was conceived by the Sydney Committee,the NSW State Government and the City of Sydney.Sydney Festival was set up to attract people into the city center during the summer holiday.

For three weeks,Sydney Festival offers a program of plenty of performances and events related to hundreds of artists from many countries.It has a tradition of creating opportunities for Australian artists.
